5ive clear up drug comments

Two members of 5ive want to set the record straight.

Yesterday it was reported that 5ive's Ritchie and J believed in the legalization of cannabis but the two U.K. pop stars said that they felt they were put on the spot when they were asked about the drug in an interview with 'Sky' magazine, dotmusic reports.

"J and Ritchie answered honestly that there could be an argument to be made for legalizing cannabis, especially for medical purposes," their spokesman said. "They are keen to point out, however, that they absolutely do not condone or participate in drugs use."

During the interview, the two singers said that they felt people who smoke marijuana weren't as violent as heavy drinkers and that something which grows naturally shouldn't be illegal.

Not everyone shares J and Ritchie's opinions though. The Bay, a British radio station, has banned 5ive songs from their play lists, stating that their comments were "irresponsible".

"We feel a band such as 5ive should know better than to promote the use of a drug which can sometimes although not in all cases lead to hard drugs," said the station's head of music, Lindsey Kerr.
