Christina incites a riot

Christina Aguilera fans came out by the thousands when the blond singer made an appearance at a Chicago department store on Sunday.

About 4,000 fans came to see her, monopolising the roads and damaging merchandise at the Target store, Rolling Stone reports.

One 28-year-old woman was hit by a car when she tried to cross the road, and some fans were treated for asthma attacks by emergency technicians. Police say no one was taken to the hospital or arrested.

Store officials were only expecting 2,000 fans and had to close the store halfway through Christina's appearance.

Target employees were planning to let in only the first 500 people, but when thousands turned up, they formed another line that put fans fifteen feet away from Christina.

The police had to help the staff evacuate the building and some fans left in tears having spent all night in line waiting to see the "Genie in a Bottle" star.

Christina later apologised to fans on a local radio program.
