Christina talks to her father

Pop star Christina Aguilera is making peace with her estranged father.

Christina (19) and her father have been separated for 12 years, The Daily Mirror reports. But Christina said the two are trying to bridge the time gap.

"Really, he's a stranger to me but we're going to try to build on it," she told the Mirror.

Christina's mother Shelly left her father in 1987.

"This business has made me very cynical -- I never know whether people are coming back to me because of my success," Christina said. "But I've learnt to be a pretty good judge of character. Dad lives in New York and wants to meet up for lunch when I'm next there, so we'll see what happens."

Christina also told the paper about one of her ex-boyfriends. The "Genie In A Bottle" star said she just had her heart broken for the first time.

"He was a dancer on my last tour and he was the first love of my life," Christina said.

The singer says her hectic schedule made it difficult for the two to stay together.
