Fans keep watch for weary star

By CAROLINE MURRAY -- Ottawa Sun
OTTAWA -- Pop sensation Christina Aguilera needed a massage and a little junk food yesterday after crossing the Atlantic to perform in the capital.

Dressed all in black, including a tight-fitting T-shirt with "Rockstar" in silver glitter, the blonde beauty pulled into the Ottawa Westin hotel shortly after noon with a crew of beefy bodyguards. Aguilera was whisked out of her vehicle, into the hotel lobby, and then vanished into an elevator with her entourage following fast behind.

"I tried to get a picture of her but I think I just got the back of her head," said Sarah Decontie, 15, of Ottawa.

The Grammy Award-winner spent the afternoon in her room recharging for her Psykoblast concert at the Corel Centre. The cross-country tour also features Canada's boy-band sensation, the Moffatts, and soulDecision.

"She's just tired," said tour manager Bobby Herr as band members headed out to the Kanata stadium for their afternoon sound check.

"She'll probably just get a massage and have a little fast food."

Between her Friday night concert in Toronto and last night's show, the 19-year-old Genie in a Bottle singer squeezed in a jaunt to London, England, to perform at a festival Sunday.

"When you hear (Aguilera) on stage, you can't even really believe it's her singing," said Jen Rent, 16, one of four teens chauffeured up from Toronto by her mom for the show.

200% VOICE

"Britney (Spears) is all dance and no voice, but Christina is 200% voice and 100% dance," said 17-year-old Carolyn Probst of the singer who has been called America's latest Lolita.

Aguilera's 1999 debut album sold 400,000 copies in Canada and nine million worldwide, and earned her a Grammy for best new artist.

Star-seekers were also on the hunt yesterday for the Moffatts.

"I have a lot of respect for them because they actually have talent," said Sarah Bradley, 16, of Oakville. "They write their own music and play their own instruments."
