Ricky Martin to star in feature film

Ricky Martin wants to conquer the big screen.

The Latin pop star is currently in talks to star in "The Assassination," which is being described as a political thriller, The New York Post reports.

In addition to starring in the film, Martin will sing the movie's theme song and take part in the soundtrack.

George Romero, famous for directing the 1968 horror flick "Night Of The Living Dead," will helm the project.

"The Assassination" is based on the events surrounding the murder of Rafael Trujillo, a Dominican dictator who was in power from 1930 to 1961.

If Martin's negotiations go as planned, he will play the role of Tavito del al Maza, a noted revolutionary.

Other roles will go to Ed Harris ("Pollock"), Anthony Quinn ("Zorba The Greek") and James Coburn ("Affliction").

Harris, who is nominated for a best actor Oscar for his role in "Pollock", will play a CIA agent who agrees to supply weapons for a political uprising. Quinn will play Trujillo, while Coburn will take the role of U.S. Ambassador Joseph Farland.

"It details the revolution fomented against the dictator by the CIA and the Kennedy administration, then abandoned at the last minute in the wake of the Bay of Pigs fiasco," Douglas Witkins, president of Highland Crest Pictures, told The Post.

"The Assassination" will be filmed in Puerto Rico and "set in the last tumultuous years of Trujillo's regime, which was known for its lack of respect for human rights".

Shooting begins in April.
