TORONTO -- Break out the earplugs.
The big night has finally arrived for fans of *Nsync.
Tonight, 27,000 of the boy band's faithful following -- largely teenage girls who really like to scream -- descend on the SkyDome's SkyTent to see *Nsync perform the first of two sold-out shows on their No Strings Attached tour. The second concert is Thursday night.
Steve Herman, the Toronto-based president of concert promoter SFX/CORE, says that if the band had had more available dates, they could have booked even more shows.
"The Toronto show has to be one of the fastest-selling shows I've ever been a part of," said Herman. "The first show sold out in 25 minutes -- 27,000 tickets! And when we added the second show, it sold out in about 38 minutes. So that's 55,000 tickets over two days. That's huge. They probably could have doubled that easy."
New country artist Meredith Edwards and Canadian pop act soulDecision are opening.
*Nsync, who arrive just before tonight's concert, most recently appeared as co-hosts on Live With Regis last Friday, performing one song.
GOOFING AROUND
They also goofed around as coat models, with five young females plucked from the audience on their arms, and band member Joey cooked Chicken Marsala with his father.
Not much was revealed during the interview segment, although they did tell Regis they play hackey sack every night before they go on stage.
Justin wouldn't confirm a report that he had been at Tiffany's picking up pearls as a Christmas present for his girlfriend and fellow hitmaker, Britney Spears.
If all this sounds a bit too Tiger Beat-ish, just remember that even the tiniest bit of information is like gold to the ardent *Nsync fan base.
Stephanie Robertson, director of national marketing for Zomba Records -- *Nsync's label in Canada -- said that, despite the claim in the current issue of TV Guide, don't expect the group to immediately begin recording the followup to the multi-platinum No Strings Attached once their tour ends.
"I would say that when they get off the road at the beginning of December they're going to take a month off -- absolutely," said Robertson.
*Nsync have a Christmas TV special expected to air on Nov. 30 on FOX and Global. They'll also be heard on Platinum Christmas, due out today, with Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera, among others. They sing I Don't Want To Spend One More Christmas Without You.
