*Nsync in puppet suit
*Nsync is being sued over puppets.
Sid & Marty Krofft Pictures is suing the mega-popular boy band for copyright infringement and breach of "implied-in-fact" contract, MTV reports.
The contract related to the puppet images the company created for *Nsync for the group's performance of "Bye, Bye, Bye" at the American Music Awards in January. *Nsync originally gave Marty Krofft the contract to construct 25-foot puppets representing each of the five group members for the show.
Krofft names each of the five group members (Justin, J.C., Joey, Chris and Lance) in the suit, plus their manager Johnny Wright, Wright Entertainment Group, Rick Barlowe (a merchandise consultant), Winterland Concessions Company and Winterland Productions Ltd.
The company claims that Wright (*Nsync's manager) agreed to pay Krofft if the group released any *Nsync-related merchandise featuring the puppets in any way. Krofft's suit claims that the oral contract was broken and that *Nsync's souvenir program featured a picture of the puppets, as did a souvenir backstage pass sold at concerts.
The lawsuit goes on to demand that *Nsync compensate the company for money made from the sale of marionette versions of the group. Krofft claims the marionettes were inspired by his puppets.
Krofft's suits seeks statutory damages, lawyers' fees and a "reasonable royalty of at least 10 percent" of the profit made from the merchandise.
In more *Nsync news, the group plans to co-host this year's Billboard Music Awards on Tuesday, Billboard reports.
*Nsync will host the awards with comedian Kathy Griffin, who will be hosting the show for the third year in a row. Griffin is best known for her role as Vicki on "Suddenly Susan".
In addition to hosting, *Nsync also plans to perform during the ceremony, along with Destiny's Child, Dixie Chicks, Ricky Martin, Faith Hill, Creed, Mystikal and 3 Doors Down.
Star presenters include Sheryl Crow, No Doubt, Nick Carter, Aaron Carter and Samantha Mumba.
The Billboard awards honours the top music artists according to the Billboard year-end charts.
The show will air on TV live, Dec. 5 from Las Vegas on Fox.
