*Nsync's latest video is as wild and grandiose as their current PopOdyssey tour -- even though one of the group members spent the shoot on crutches.
Joey hurt his leg while rehearsing for the tour but still managed to participate in the filming of the "Pop" video, crutches, stitches and all.
"When he saw the energy and got up there on top of the stage, he just went for it," said the video's director, Wayne Isham, told Sonicnet. "You could see that it hurt -- [his leg] was cut up, stitched, [and] he potentially could have done some damage. But that's one of the reasons why I dig these guys. People don't realize the discipline and work that these guys do."
Most of the video takes place in a fantasy dance club. Isham -- who also directed *Nsync's "Bye Bye Bye" and "It's Gonna Be Me" -- said the "Pop" video is one of the biggest projects he's ever taken on.
The dance-club sets included a 40-foot neon ramp and a 35-foot-high stage. Isham said that some of the dancers had to be attached to the ceiling with safety-wire.
According to MuchMusic, which aired the video on Monday, May 28, "Pop" cost 2.5 million to make.
As *Nsync fans know by now, the boys are currently giving their fans a sneak peak at their upcoming album on their tour as they perform material from their upcoming album "Celebrity," scheduled for release on July 24.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the group said they truly enjoyed being on tour and decided they needed a new album to keep their devoted fans engrossed in their shows.
"We're not trying to shove albums down people's throats this time," J.C. told the magazine. "They actually get a chance to choose whether they like the new songs or not, which is pretty cool."
Lance said the album's title pokes fun at the group's fame. The cover will be in the glam-rock genre, while inside the case, photos will reveal the not so glamorous aspects of a pop star's life -- "sleeping in airports and all of that," explained Lance.
As far as the high-energy single is concerned, J.C. said that *Nsync thinks of "Pop" as a kind of pop music "anthem".
