Sugar Jones, the latest girl-group from the TV show "Popstars" joined AllPop fans for a live chat on Tuesday, April 3. Here is the entire transcript:
Hey, SugarJones!! I want to ask you how it feels like to
attain such a high-status of popularity and stardom in a
matter of a few months? Has this new level of living
changed your daily routines and personalities, as well as
your perspectives on life?
Maiko: Not personality, but it has changed our lifestyles, it is very hectic now. But we enjoy doing what we're doing. We're making music. Absolutely.
Tenille Jackson:
Hi Sugar Jones! First I want to say that I'm so happy
and excited for all five of you. I wish you all the best
in your careers as popstars and I'm definitely routing for
ya!
My question is, who are your current favourite Canadian
artists?
Maiko: Mirella-Shania Twain
Julie-Sarah McLachlan, Alanis Morissette
Sahara-Joni Mitchell
Maiko-Deborah Cox
Andrea-Tania
:
Dina Grilo:
Did You feel welcomed by the crowd last night at this is
London?
P.S. Because I brought my niece there yesterday and we
thought you were excellent.
Sahara: Absolutely. It was amazing. We had a really warm time, warm reception. We were totally nervous. Butterflies, but all positive butterflies. Once we started singing, it was sweet.
Kevin:
I want to say that I love the show and hope that Sugar
Jones is a great success. It takes alot of guts to just
get to this point. My question is: Do you believe that
there will be any competition between Sugar Jones and
Eden's Crush because both groups are entering the market at
the same time? Do you feel any pressure to compete with
your U.S. counterparts?
Julie: Not at all.
Not more than with any other band, really. We just consider the other Popstars, like another band. It's just a way to get people together and make some music.
Marissa Croy:
Thanks to the show, viewers were able to see your
progression from the "girls next door" to "popstars
in the making". You all must have learned so much in so
little time whether about music or simply the industry
in general. What was the most shocking lesson?
Julie: We continue to learn every day. We haven't been shocked by anything yet, anyway. Living away from home, not being with your friends, making new friends -- that was an adjustment.
Laura:
Hello
when do you think your CD will come out?
Julie: June. Mid-June
rachel:
I am so excited for sugar jones! I have been watching
popstars since the beginning and it is my favourite show &
sugar jones is my fave band! You guys are all so talented!
anyhow, my questions is; is there any plans for tours soon
like maybe this summer (tours of Canada that is)
:
Sahara: Definitely yes. No dates right now. We can't wait to get on tour.
Sugar_Jones_Baby_Boi:
Hey there, my name is Dit, and i'm from Ottawa.
I LOVE YOU GUYS SOOOOO VERRRRRY MUCH
and i am like SOOOOOO VERRRRRY MUCH in love
with you guys of course! =)
To Mirella: What is your reaction, when the producer
didn't allow you to create the songs you wanted
the make? what is your re-action to this one?
Mirella: We work through the song, and we are very happy with the way it turned out.
The crying? I don't know how to explain the crying. I had certain concerns, but we worked through them. About our sound.
Megan:
hi you guys !!My question is how does it feel to
finally have your dreams come true in pursuing a
singing career?how long have you wanted to be professional
singers and why?
Mirella: Forever. And it feels fabulous. Amazing. So fabulous.
We just want to make it feel good. We just want to express ourselves.
Jackie:
How do you feel knowing that you're all now 5 teen roll
models and everything thing that you do is going to be
watched by the press and some of it may be copied by
teens?
Julie: I feel lucky to have that opportunity
Andrea-We're very down to earth people. We can set a good example by being strong, but being ourselves.
Ryan:
This question is for Mirella. First, let me say I'm so
proud of you! I live in Toronto but was born and raised in
your hometown of St. Leonard. My question is, has the
transition from St. Leonard to Toronto been hard for you?
I'm curious to know your experience on this since I went
through the same thing.
Mirella: It was difficult at first to get used to, especially because I was away from my family. But it has been great. Living with the girls has been quite an experience.
*chels*:
Hey Guyz, u are my role models all the way!! You were u
the whole time, and never used looks are your body to reach
your goals, but instead your raw talent!! I'm only fifteen,
but like u guyz I love singing and dancing and want to do
it professionally someday, since I'm so young do u have any
suggestions on how to get started, and to get myself out
there?
Sahara: Just start taking opportunities, get into courses if you enjoy that. Start meeting people. Let people know. Really research, look into all kinds of music so you can be multifaceted.
Sahara: And never be afraid to sing. Don't be shy.
Mirella-I used to be so shy. I used to be really hesitant about singing.
casey :
hey there i would just like to say you gurls rock
anywaz i would like to ask was trying out for popstars
the hardest thing you have ever done if not what was ?
from : casey
vancouver canada
Sahara: Mirella-It's the first thing I have ever auditioned for.
Andrea-It was not the hardest, but the most challenging.
Daniel:
Hi girls!
At your first gig you did a cover of the song "Back to
Life" by Soul II Soul. If there was another song you would
absolutely want to cover, what would it be?
Julie et Mirella, on veut vous voir à Montréal!!!
Andrea: We're looking at some Motown stuff, Motown era. We are down with all that old-school: Stevie, Marvin Gaye, Lionel Richie.
We are hoping to do a cover for the CD.
Can't Wait to Hear Ya:
What means more to you, now that the group is formed:
1)Sticking together and becoming the most creative,
entertaining and *tight-knit* group in the industry;
2)Making the most of this opportunity as a foundation for a
long career?
Andrea: It's really both.
You have an opportunity here, so we are going to use it to its full potential. But we are not just going to ditch it.
allyson:
I watched you uys every week, and let me tell ya, that was
some hard training! I enjoyed it and am sure you will train
just as hard for your fans! Do you guys have boyfriends,
and are you in or taking school?
Sahara: None of us are in school. We don't have time. We have a very busy life. It's just very busy, hard to carry out a personal life.
sammi:
Everyone sees the glam part of being in a group. What was
the hardest thing you had to deal with so far?
Sahara: The early mornings! We're still not used to it.
Mirella-5:30 sometimes. For morning radio shows or the studio.
^*^Sugar_Jones_baBiE_Boi^*^:
Suga Jones, how are u?
i gotta ask ya a question:
What do you guys think, when Marla was accused
for credit card fruad and etc.
Any reactions to this?
Mirella: We were surprised and disappointed. We never expected it. But we wish her all the best.
Cassandra:
I was wondering what kind of feedback you guys have been
getting from the public. Mostly positive?
&I can't think of a better group of girls to represent
Canada!
:)
Sahara: Thank you. That is so sweet. Awesome. We have been getting a lot of good feedback and support. We hope we can continue to please the fans. They are very important to us. The fans are #1 in our hearts. They are the ones who make us.
Melissa Woodcock:
When in Australia, they did POPSTARS over there, and formed
a band called "Bardot". I was just curious whether you've
listened to any of their music or heard on how they've done
on the charts in Australia, and whether that gives you much
of an insight on what to expect here in Canada?
Sahara: Bardot was very successful, but very different than us. We hope to do as well as them, if not better.
saharas*gurl:
Hey!!!!!!!
I love you guys you're my heroes!! You were SO incredible at
This Is London last nite!! you guys are all sweethearts!! I
can't wait til the album comes out it seems like it's gunna
be an eternity:( What can we expect on the album?? And
what's your favourite song on the album?? **luv esther**
aka the girl at this is London w/ the POP STAR shirt *hehe*
Sahara: Hi baby! I remember you! You were the first girl I saw when I went out on the balcony. Bear with us. Hopefully the album will be done by June. And if you liked the music you heard last night, we intend to just get better. I don't want to compare us to another girl band, but most importantly, we are singing from the heart, and we want to come across as soulful and real and down to earth, grounded.
Emma 123:
What was the most nerve racking thing for the whole
Popstars experience and what one event will you never
forget?
Julie: I will never forget the Thursday, going from 15th to 10th. That was the most uplifting, but sad. I didn't think I would make it, up and down, yes and no.
MelissaYee:
I really like that song that goes "boy you knock me out...
etc"... can I find that song anywhere??
Maiko: It wasn't our style. It wasn't the direction we wanted to go in. But we think it is a great pop song,.
Diane Larocque:
How was it like to leave your family and friends behind to
live with people you hardly know?
Sahara: It was so surprising. It was so surprising how well we got along from the beginning.
pikelcheez:
what's your favourite late nite snack?
Sahara: Saraha and Maiko-You have got the dopest name! I love pickles and cheese.:0
Julie-I like ice cream
Mirella-Rollo Ice cream
Andrea-Nachos with cheese.
soulgirl:
Maiko:
What do you think of the new soul movement with the likes
of Jill Scott,Macy Gray etc..making such an impact?
I'd love to see you head in that direction!
Maiko: I'm totally into that. This person sounds like they know me. That is exactly what I want to do. Weird. Who is Soulgirl?
Maiko: I am totally down with that. Hey Soulgirl? Where are you from? Do you know me?> If you do, email us at allpop@allpop.com
Denise Lewis:
Congratulations ladies! I've watched the show from
day-one. Andrea, I was rooting for you all along and was
quite happy that you were eventually given a chance to
become a member of Sugar Jones. My question is who gave
the name "Sugar Jones" to the group? It is quite unique.
I love you guys. You definitely have my support.
:
Andrea: Thank you very much from Andrea.
Sahara: We named the group. We thought it would be a good combination of soul, pop and funk. The old school. The management was interested in it.
Anonymous:
hi sugar jones, i just want to say congrats on achieving
your success. i was just wondering how you guys felt
towards your achievements knowing that all the friends u
made who were trying out didn't all make it and do u still
keep in contact with some of them?
Julie: Actually, I just received an email from Tanya, which was filled with great support and encouragement. We miss them. We feel really sad they didn't get that opportunity, but we still feel confident that they will get personal success elsewhere.
Mel:
Is the song that you wrote and sang a couple episodes ago
(Bad things happening to bad people) going to make it on
the album? Personally, I think that is the best song I've
heard on the show. I'd love to see it on the album!
Andrea: Thank you. Hopefully it will be on the album. Hopefully a lot of stuff will be on the album.
Sahara-It was the three of us, it was like an evening.
Julie-Maybe two or three evenings.
Tony76I:
You all developed into very good friends as a group. No
matter what happens with the success and the group do you
all see your friendships lasting for a lifetime no matter
what?
Andrea: YES! That's easy!
Brooke:
Hey! do u like to get on the internet a lot, or do u have
time to get on line? If u have a screen name, would u give
it to me PLEASE i'm a big fan of your's, and would really
love to chat!!
Mirella: We don't have a computer. We don't now, but hopefully in the future.
Claire:
Mrilla are you from an Itallian Background?
Mirella: Yes, I am. Full on.
Josh Blade:
Hey Sugar, we know that the talent level of you all is very
high no doubt about it but do u fell the group as the sex
appeal of todays market
Mirella: Are you calling us sexy? If so, thank you!
We intend to stay the same. We won't change. We're classy. The focus is the music, not the flaunting of the body.
Christina Pouls:
I just wanted to say I've been watching you since day one.
And I think you guys are doing terrific. I feel so proud to
have a Canadian band to call my own.
I suffered a brain aneurysm and I am now partially paralysed
so I can no longer
purse my dream which was to be a dancer in a group. But you
girls are great, should be very proud of yourselves and go
all the way. I'm already your #1 fan.
Sahara: Never give up on your passion.
You're an inspiration to us all.
We send you our love. Thank you for the support. Lots of hugs.
Please send your email to allpop@allpop.com, the girls would like to contact you.
gimix:
Hey guys, my question is, if u could do a duet with anyone
who would it be with?
Sahara: That's really hard.
For me, it would be Bob Marley. I just love his vibe.
(the rest say it's too hard to choose someone)
Mirella-Backstreet Boys! Kind of.
jessica:
