S Club launch Poppy Appeal
S Club 7 are honouring war heroes and victims.
The U.K. pop group is launching a Poppy Appeal and plans to respect the two-minute silence on Armistice Day, Nov. 11, BBC reports.
"It is very rare we get any silence - we are all very rowdy," said the group's Jon Lee.
All of the seven group members had grandfathers who fought in WWII, and they want to raise awareness among young people through the Poppy Appeal.
"We are raising money for old war veterans - we have family who risked their lives for the country, and we must remember them and hope to raise young people's support," said Tina.
The organizers of the Appeal have been turning to high-profile pop artists lately in an effort to bring more awareness to the organization.
Irish pop group Westlife launched the campaign last year, and the Spice Girls took the role in 1997.
"The Poppy Appeal is the life-blood of the Legion's welfare programme," said Noel Rogers, the chairman of fund-raising at the Royal British Legion. "Wearing a poppy, the symbol of remembrance, is a small yet significant gesture when we remember the price of freedom."
