S Club 7's in the party mood
By Stephanie McGrath -- AllPop
S Club
S Club 7
(Universal)
If you need to be cheered up, this is the album for you.
If there's a theme to the S Club 7 debut CD, S Club, it's that parties are good - very, very good.
Most of the songs, "S Club Party," "Friday Night," "Viva La Fiesta," serenade the joy of parties.
The seven U.K. stars insist that "There ain't no party like an S Club party," and that "All we really like is to party on Friday night."
The album sounds like a cross between very young Spice Girls and a pop-loving boys choir but that's not surprising since they're managed by ex-Spice manager Simon Fuller.
Their singles, "Bring It All Back" and "S Club Party," are already topping the U.K. charts and are bound to invade North America soon. They're simple, fun, and easy to dance to.
A few of the tracks, "Change the World" and "Hope For The Future," are a bit too hokey as the three guys croon about making the world a better place. They probably thought they shouldn't focus on parties all the time.
The album is generally cute, fun, young and contagious, basically the characteristics we can use to describe the seven group members.
You won't want to listen to this album 24/7 because it's so sweet you might develop diabetes. But, it'll be a good CD to play when you're grumpy and it won't take you any time at all to learn the words so you can sing along.
Play it at a party and it's sure to get the dancing started, after all, there ain't no party like an S Club Party.
S Club will be released on Nov. 2nd.
