These Aussies are bad for your teeth
By MIKE ROSS -- Edmonton Sun
SAVAGE GARDEN
Savage Garden
(Columbia/Sony)
Hey, Wham is back together! OK, sorry, the joke works once.
Riding the latest wave of bubblegum pop comes this Australian duo of breathy dance-trax crooners. They recently scored a Canadian No. 1 hit with I Want You, a wad of sugary fluff smothered in teasing, sweet lyrical nothings aimed directly at all the little girls who loved the Backstreet Boys: "Ooh, I want you. I don't know if I need you. But, ooh, I'd die to find out."
The rest of this album is simply more of the same - derivative, lightweight, thrown-together pop music. This "band" is like a cheap, shiny new toy that's likely to be forgotten before too long.
