Technical woes blamed for Sky concert cancellation

By JAMES REANEY -- London Free Press

LONDON, ONT -- Sky didn't get off the ground in London last night.

A show by the Montreal pop duo at the DV8 club in downtown London was cancelled for technical reasons, its Toronto promoter said.

"We had to cancel it due to some technological difficulties we had," said Emma Barnett of the House of Blues concert promotion firm. Faced with putting on a "second-rate" show, House of Blues decided to "pull the plug," Barnett said.

Also on the bill was London pop and R&B-flavoured group McAuley.

"It's upsetting for the fans," Gary McAuley, one of four London brothers in that group, said of the cancellation.

Sky won a 2000 Juno and had three big hits off its Piece of Paradise album -- Some Kinda Wonderful, Love Song and Push.

DV8 promotions manager Hugh Shilhan said the club hadn't been told of any reason for the cancellation. Poor ticket sales might have been a factor, Shilhan said.

Another Sky and McAuley concert at a Kitchener-Waterloo club set for tonight was also cancelled. But the groups are scheduled to play Toronto's Guvernment club (132 Queens Quay E. at Jarvis Street; 416-869-9261) tomorrow night.

Ticketholders are directed to seek refunds from Ticketmaster (416-870-8000) or point of purchase.

House of Blues will also honour tickets for the DV8 show at the Guvernment. Rock group Serial Joe is also on the bill at the Guvernment.
