Britney honoured by hometown museum

Britney Spears may only be 18 years old but the princess of pop has already inspired a museum in her honour.

An exhibit dedicated to Britney's career will be placed in a special wing of the Kentwood Museum located in Kentwood, Louisiana which is Britney's hometown, E! Online reports.

Town officials have been thinking about establishing a shrine for the young pop star for a year and reportedly started working on the exhibit about six months ago, after the project was approved by Britney's camp.

"This town has just received thousands of phone calls inquiring about her," Sandy Reed a Kentwood resident who's been coordinating the project along with town councilwoman Kathy Bryan, told E! Online. "People want to know where they can go, so with her support and approval we'll have a lot of her personal clothes, platinum records and things she had on tour."

The Britney exhibit is expected to open early next year and organisers are hoping that Britney herself will be on hand to cut the ceremonial ribbon and take the first tour.
