Britney helps sad fans

Britney Spears' part-time job as an advice columnist is starting to get heavy.

Recently, one fan wrote in to the BBC website where Britney runs her online column explaining she'd been a victim of sexual assault.

"Please help me," the girl, who identified herself as Dolphin ,wrote. "This guy has ruined my life, and this will be my [exam] year."

To the 18-year-old pop star's credit, she did provide a sensible response.

"Dolphin, I'm so sorry," Britney wrote. "I can't begin to imagine what you must be going through. I guess the most important thing is to talk to somebody - what about your Mom? If you can't talk to her, then talk to a friend or even a counsellor. You need to talk through your feelings and try to get your life back together so you can concentrate on your exams."

The website also provided phone numbers for counselling facilities.

Other letters from fans include questions about body image and break-up etiquette.

Although Britney was publicly criticized by some columnists in the U.K. for being too inexperienced to give advice, the singer's publicity team insists she's taking her online job very seriously.
