Mel C slams music industry

Seems things aren't all sweet and nice for Spice Girl solo artist Mel C.

According to dotmusic.com, Mel C. (a.k.a. Sporty Spice) slammed the latest Spice Girls rival, Girl Thing, on the TV British show "CD:UK."

Characterizing record and management companies "evil", she said of Girl Thing, "I think it's a bit sad that their management and record company have just tried to rip off the Spice Girls. I fear for them because management and record companies are evil."

Mel C's anger is understandable. Girl Thing was put together in the same formulaic way as the Spice Girls, through an advertisement in Britain's Stage newspaper, by their ex-manager Simon Fuller. (He's also the man behind teen sensations S Club 7.)

About comparisons, Girl Thing's singer, Michelle Barber, has said, "We are getting compared to the Spice Girls quite a lot, but at the end of the day we are not them. Yes, we are five girls who have individual personalities, but that's it."

She added, "We are not trying to be the Spice Girls - it's our record company who are touting us as their successors."
