Robbie up for important award

Robbie Williams is nominated for a prestigious UK music award along with two young female sensations.

The British pop star has been nominated for the Ivor Novello award for best song, musically and lyrically, for "Strong", Reuters reports.

Christina Aguilera's "Genie In A Bottle" and Shania Twain's "You're Still The One" were also nominated for the award.

Robbie co-wrote "Strong" with Guy Chambers, Shania worked with Mutt Lange on "You're Still The One", but Christina's hit was written by Pam Sheyne, David Frand and Steve Kipner.

Other Ivor Novello nominations went out to Gabrielle's "Rise", Travis' "Why Does It Always Rain On Me" and Madonna's "Beautiful Stranger" for best contemporary song.

Basement Jaxx's "Rendez-Vu", "Sweet Like Chocolate" by Shanks & Bigfoot and "Re-Rewind" are nominated for the dance award.

Shanks & Bigfoot's single, along with Sir Cliff Richard's "Millennium Prayer" and Shania's "That Don't Impress Me Much", are up for best-selling UK single.

The Ivor Novello awards are given out to British songwriters, composers and music publishers by the British Academy of Composers and Songwriters. The ceremony will be held in London on May 25.

Although he's been nominated for an award, Robbie is already looking ahead to his next hit.

Robbie wants to record Ian Dury's "You Are The Why", written by Chas Jankel, Music 365 reports.

The Blockheads performed the song at Dury's funeral last week but Dury's manager, Andrew King, said The Blockheads probably wouldn't want to record the song without Dury, who died of cancer on March 27.

"We are looking at all the offers," King told Music 365. "It is certainly a lovely song. But we have got a whole estate to work through now. That's apart from the fact that we are all still hungover from the wake. None of us wanted to face this."

"All I knew was that I had The Blockheads down for two gigs this summer and now I don't. I would not be surprised if there was a lot more future for this song though."

Robbie became friends with the late musician when they went to Sri Lanka together for charity work for UNICEF. There are rumours that Robbie is planning a charity tribute album for Dury that would feature tracks by the Stereophonics and Cerys Matthews (Catatonia). Proceeds from the album would go to cancer charities.

Meanwhile, Ronnie Carroll, a former neighbour of the late singer, also wants to record the song.
