'Scary Movie' writers working on new spoof

The writers behind the current box-office hit satire of slasher movies, "Scary Movie," will now turn their eye to the whole teen-picture genre.

Variety says writers Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer, have signed a seven-figure deal to write a movie that spoofs the current crop of teen romance stories like "She's All That," "Down To You," "Loser," "Boys And Girls" and "10 Things I Hate About You."

Producer Carey Woods' Independent Pictures bought Friedberg and Seltzer's idea based on a pitch -- the general oral outline for the film and not a finished screenplay -- and has fast-tracked it to get into production for release by next summer, Variety said.

Friedberg and Seltzer, whose screenplay for "Scary Movie" was originally entitled "Scream If You Know What I Did Last Halloween," are currently in demand. Variety said they are developing a screenplay based on the life of Liberace, for "Unbearable Lightness Of Being" director Phil Kaufman, with Robin Williams being considered for the lead.

They are also adapting Chris Buckley's novel "Little Green Men" and have written a screenplay for director Bo Welch entitled "The Year Without A Santa Claus," Variety said.
