Drew Barrymore's house burns down
LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Actress Drew Barrymore and her Canadian comedian fiance Tom Green were awakened by their dog early Sunday in time to escape a fire that gutted their home.
Both escaped injury.
"We're great," Barrymore, a star of Charlie's Angels, told reporters at the scene.
"Other than the fact that the home burned down," Green added as they drove away.
Their dog, Flossie, woke them up around 3:30 a.m. local time (6:30 a.m. EST) when she barked and "literally banged on their bedroom door," said Eddie Michaels, Barrymore's spokesman.
"Flossie was really the main alert that there was a fire," Michaels said.
It took firefighters about an hour to douse the flames, Fire Department spokesman Jim Wells said.
Firefighters estimated damage at $700,000 US in the two-storey, 325-square-metre home north of Beverly Hills.
Michaels, however, said: "The house is totalled. It's a pretty shocking sight to see an entire charred-out house, but it is."
The cause of the blaze was under investigation.
