New star in 'Crazy/Beautiful'

Jay Hernandez has come a long way from his days as a Saturday morning sitcom star.

Jay will appear opposite teen-movie queen Kirsten Dunst in "Crazy/Beautiful", which opens this Friday (June 29), TV Guide reports.

The actor is best known for his role as basketball player Antonio Lopez on NBC's Saturday morning show "Hang Time", but a part on a wholesome kid's show didn't prepare him for a major big-screen kiss.

Jay and Kirsten are romantically involved in the movie, and Jay's manager thinks their onscreen lip-lock will get them nominated for Best Kiss at the 2002 MTV Movie Awards.

"I was pretty nervous when we did it," he told TV Guide. "[Kirsten had] never really done too many intimate scenes; this kind of was her first. But it was more my first of everything, so I was a lot more nervous than her."

Next up for Jay is a role in "The Rookie" with Dennis Quaid. The movie is scheduled to be released next year.
