98 Degrees to release greatest hits

98 Degrees fans know there's not much planned in their favourite group's future but at least the boyband is giving them something to look forward to.

The group is releasing a new song titled "Why", scheduled to hit radio on March 12, according to their official website. 98 will also be releasing a greatest hits album -- "The Collection" -- which will be released on May 7.

"The Collection" includes 98's hits from the past five years and an eight minute video compilation.

After the collection however, there may or may not be another 98 Degrees album. A message on their official site says the group is taking an "extended break" and has "no immediate plans to record or tour".

The official 98 Degrees Fan Club is also closing, an ominous sign to devoted fans.

"Music right now is in a different place than it was in 1997 when we entered the scene," writes 98 star Drew Lachey on the website. "We are just taking our time to see how we fit into it. We also have been presented with a lot of opportunities over the past couple of years that we want to explore. All of these things take time. As always we appreciate your patience and continued support."

Drew's brother and fellow 98 group-member Nick was in the news recently when he and his popstar girlfriend Jessica Simpson reconciled after a much publicized break-up. The couple are said to be engaged.
