Destiny's Child members working on solo albums

Dying for the inside scoop on "Destiny's Child"? Hold tight, the official story is coming soon.

"Soul Survivors: The Official Autobiography" tells the tale of Destiny's drama, the group member's personal lives and success. The book is scheduled for release later this month, MuchMusic reports.

A write-up on the book on Amazon.com says the story will follow Beyonce's fight with her weight, Kelly's issues growing up without her father and Michelle's experience with bullies.

"It must be a part of human nature to love drama," writes Beyonce in Amazon.com's excerpt. "We never would have sold as many records -- and we never would have been this popular -- if our member changes did not happen. Up until that point, we were squeaky-clean nice girls who couldn't get on the cover of any magazines."

The "Soul Survivors" write-up also says the book with reveal the group's plans for their future.

Destiny's Child members working on solo albums

Michelle Williams, one of the Destiny's Child stars, is set to release her solo album.

"Heart To Yours," Michelle's gospel album, is scheduled for release on April 16 and Mathew Knowles, Michelle's and Destiny's manager, says the whole album is about the singer forming a relationship with God, MTV reports.

"I heard a word/ Saying you'll be fine/ I heard a word that would ease my troubled mind/ Took all the hurt away/ Warmed me up inside like a summer day/ So glad you'd never break your promises," are the chorus lyrics for the first single "Heard A Word".

Michelle co-wrote the single as well as four other tracks on the album. One of the songs she worked on, "Better Place", was reportedly inspired by the September 11 tragedy.

The Destiny's Child autobiography, "Soul Survivors" will be released on the same day as Michelle's solo album.

Meanwhile, Beyonce Knowles and Kelly Rowland are also working on their own solo albums. In order to ensure the albums don't end up competing with one another, Beyonce's is expected to be released in the fall while Kelly's will hit the stores in early 2003.

Beyonce and Kelly are keeping busy while they wait for their turn in the solo spotlight by appearing in movies -- Beyonce is in the new "Austin Powers" flick -- and television -- Kelly appeared on the Nickelodeon sitcom "Taina".

"I wouldn't want any of my artists to directly compete with each other," Mathew Knowles told MTV last year. "They're so multi-talented that while one's working TV, the other can be working a record."

Beyonce told MTV that the solo efforts will only make Destiny's music better when the girls regroup after their solo projects are done.

The Destiny's Child remix album, "This Is The Remix" was released on Tuesday, March 12.

Below is the complete track listing for Michelle's upcoming solo album:

  • "Heart to Yours"
  • "Heard a Word"
  • "So Glad" f/ Mary Mary
  • "Sun Will Shine Again"
  • "Better Place"
  • "Change the World"
  • "Everything"
  • "You Care for Me" f/ Isaac Carree and Lowell C. Pye of Men of Standard
  • "Steal Away to Jesus" f/ Shirley Caesar
  • "Rock With Me"
  • "Gospel Medley" f/ Destiny's Child
  • "Heaven" featuring Carl Thomas

    Destiny donates

Destiny's Child are donating money and dolls to their hometown AIDS foundation.

The girls gave $30,000 and 300 of their signature dolls to AIDS Foundation Houston, which creates resources for AIDS services, MTV reports. The donated dolls will be given to children attending the AIDS foundation's Camp Hope, for children who have HIV or AIDS.

The donation was the first from Destiny's new Survivor Foundation.

In more Destiny's Child news, the girls recently teamed up with Canadian superstar Celine Dion during her concert at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood.

Destiny and Celine sang the trio's "Emotion" and Celine's "When The Wrong One Loves You Right". The concert is scheduled to air on CBS, April 7 .

And in even more Destiny's news, the group's remix album, "This Is The Remix", will be released on Tuesday (March 12).

Destiny's Child sued by former group mates

Two former Destiny's Child stars are suing the group.

LeToya Luckett and LaTavia Roberson were both members of Destiny's Child when the girl R&B act released its self-titled album in 1998 and "The Writing's On The Wall" in 1999. The two singers are claiming that Destiny's hit song "Survivor" insults them, MTV reports.

If the comments -- "You thought I wouldn't sell without you/sold 9 million" -- in "Survivor" are insulting to LeToya and LaTavia, it would violate an agreement the girls reached in December 2000. The agreement does not allow either group to make remarks about each other.

LeToya and LaTavia also claim through the lawsuit that Beyonce Knowles called the former members' previous lawsuit a "bunch of bull". That comment would also violate the 2000 agreement, which forbids either party from making an "improper reference" to the first suit.

Now, the two former Destiny's members are looking for a restraining order and injunction to block more comments that could violate their original agreement. They've also named Sony Music, Destiny's record label, in their suit, claiming breach of contract, defamation, libel and fraud.

"It's unfortunate that the plaintiffs have nothing better to do with their time than to dream up new lawsuits to file," said Tom Fulkerson, Destiny's Child's lawyer. "We made a settlement agreement that we knew put things to bed, yet here we are again."

The original lawsuit started in March 2000 and named Destiny's Child and the group's manager Mathew Knowles. In the suit, the girls claimed wrongful expulsion. That matter was settled. LeToya and LaTavia's claim that Mathew breached his fiduciary duties as a manager (which means he has to be honest about all group decisions and act in "good faith"), is ongoing.

Austin Powers writes for Destiny's Beyonce

Mike Myers recently penned a song especially for Destiny's Child's Beyonce Knowles.

The comedian wrote the song for his third Austin Powers flick, "Austin Powers In Goldmember", which co-stars Beyonce as Foxy Cleopatra, MTV reports.

The song, titled "Hey Goldmember," features bits of KC And The Sunshine Band's 1976 disco single "(Shake Shake Shake) Shake Your Booty".

"It's not a serious song -- it's really funny and crazy", Beyoncé told MTV. "It is actually [in the movie] the first time you see Foxy Cleopatra. I'm not a singer in the movie, but it makes me feel a little bit more comfortable that the first time people see me I'm up there [dancing], doing what they are used to seeing me do."

Beyonce's little sister, Solange Knowles who is set to release a solo album in the new year, provides background vocals on the song. Solange will also make an appearance in the flick.

Gossip on Tara Reid & Destiny's Child

According to a gossip section in Seventeen.com, Tara Reid, former girlfriend of MTV star Carson Daly, has found a new "Friend", while one Destiny's Child star wants to just stay friends with an *Nsync-er.

"American Pie" star Reid is rumoured to be romancing David Schwimmer, a.k.a. Ross on "Friends". The two reportedly met in Las Vegas several weeks ago and have been spending time together since then.

The Seventeen gossipers are also whispering about Destiny's Child's Kelly Rowland and *Nsync's Lance Bass.

Lance is said to have a crush on Kelly and supposedly brought her flowers when the trio performed at the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree lighting ceremony last week. Unfortunately for Lance, it sounds as though Kelly isn't returning his affections.

"She thinks he's really sweet," a friend of Kelly's told The New York Post. "But she likes someone else. She really likes Lance as a friend."

Movie fans fight against Britney & Beyonce

People who hate Britney Spears and Beyonce Knowles and love "Austin Powers" have a new home on the Internet.

So far, almost a thousand people don't want Britney and Destiny's Child star Beyonce to appear in the next "Austin Powers" flick.

A petition on PetitionOnline.com asks people to sign up to support their desire to "Keep Britney Spears and Beyonce Knowles Out of 'Austin Powers'!".

The anti-Britney & Beyonce project is addressed to New Line executives. The online letter begs New Line to reconsider the casting of the two pop stars in Mike Myers' third instalment of his spy-spoof films, "Austin Powers In Goldmember".

"Because their fan base is mostly children and teenagers who will not even be allowed to see the movie, and also because the total amount of people who are against Spears and Knowles is much higher than the amount of their fans, we feel that they will be bad for the movie, and drive viewers away from it," reads the petition.

"We, the undersigned, state that we will not see "Austin Powers In Goldmember" if Spears and/or Knowles are in it, nor will we buy any merchandise related to the movie, including the soundtrack CD, posters, the video/DVD release, etc."

People who sign the petition are asked to respond to four questions. The first two questions allow petitioners to vent about Britney and Beyonce. The last two simply ask whether the signees have seen the previous two "Austin Powers" films and whether they have purchased "Austin Powers" merchandise.

The first question is: "Who would you recommend as better actresses to appear in the third "Austin Powers" movie?"

Answers to the question ranged from Julia Roberts and Angelina Jolie to "Even Liz Hurley returning would be better than these two flakes," and "An actual actress".

The second question asks: "Why do you not wish to see Spears and/or Knowles in the movie?"

"Having seen the horror that is the trailer for Britney Spears's feature length film 'Crossroads' and Beyonce Knowles's sub-par performance in the MTV motion picture 'Carmen: A Hip Hopera,'" answers one petitioner named Duane G., "I can safely say that I would rather chew broken glass than endure this duo's mediocre acting skills."

"Why date the movie with crappy current trends (I.E. talentless pop frauds with questionable acting skills) that will be out of style in 5 years?," argues another petitioner named Jerry Odin Crane.

Since the movie is scheduled for release on July 26, 2002, and the publicized cast list does indeed include Britney and Beyonce, as well as Michael Caine, Seth Green, Heather Graham, Danny DeVito, Quincy Jones, Gwyneth Paltrow and Kevin Spacey, it's highly unlikely that the online petition has much of a chance at succeeding.

However, if you can't stand the thought of Britney and Beyonce appearing on screen in "Austin Powers", you can voice your opinion here.

Destiny's Child star discusses group's future
    By STEPHANIE McGRATH
    AllPop

When there's a "Saturday Night Live" sketch poking fun at your career, it's probably a clear sign that you've made it big.

The giddy female comedians on "SNL" don wigs, fake nails, and small outfits for their Gemini's Twin skits, and there's always a new member in their R&B trio, usually played by the host of the week. This is a friendly jab at Destiny's Child, whose line-up constantly changed for a period of time before settling on Kelly Rowland, Beyonce Knowles, and Michelle Williams.

The trio enjoyed massive success with this year's "Survivor", and they've just released "8 Days Of Christmas". But, as Kelly Rowland told reporters at a recent press conference in Toronto, the girls are going the way of the Spice Girls and splitting up for a moment to work on their separate careers. Could this mean Destiny's Child is on shaky ground again?

"I know it's all starting off with Michelle right now," Kelly said. "She's starting on her solo project, and Beyonce is starting on 'Austin Powers (In Goldmember)', which I'm just so thrilled about."

Meanwhile, Kelly will appear on a few episodes of the new Nickelodeon program called "Taina" and hopes to audition for movies in the near future.

"I tried out for a movie, I didn't make it, but there's so many movies coming out you just try over and over and over again and I can't wait for the next opportunity to come," she said.

Like Michelle, Kelly also wants to develop a solo career.

"I'm still searching for my sound," Kelly said. "I want it to be like rock/ alternative/R&B, a very different sound. I love Pink's new single ["Get The Party Started"]. That single is just so hot to me, and I want something a little bit similar to that, but different."

So while Kelly's working on a budding acting career and finding her sound, Michelle's recording a solo album, and Beyonce is cracking jokes with Mike Myers and company, will Destiny's Child whither away?

"I think the most incredible thing is, while we're doing that [solo projects], everybody is kinda going to be growing into themselves, the mind is going to expand as far as creativity is concerned, and when we come back together, its going to be like a Beatles kind of thing, and that's what we want to happen", Kelly said.

When asked where she will be five years from, Kelly mentioned her solo plans first but quickly said the main thing she sees is this: "Above all, Destiny's Child will still be shaking some bootylicious things across the stage in little outfits".
