Joey branches beyond *Nsync

*Nsync star Joey Fatone wants to direct.

The singer worked on a video for Luis Fonsi in Florida recently, MTV reports.

Luis, a Latin music artist, and Joey are high school pals who both belonged to an a cappella act called Big Guys.

Joey directed the video for Luis's "Secret", the single from the singer's first English-language album, "Fight The Feeling", due out July 2.

Joey also makes a cameo at the end of the video during a party scene.

Joey's other non-*Nsync related ventures include a role in the upcoming movie "My Big Fat Greek Wedding".

Gorillaz love Justin

U.K. cartoon act Gorillaz is keeping a spot in the band open for *Nsync's Justin Timberlake.

"We're trying to knock those *NSync guys right off the charts, because once that happens I think Justin can join our band," Dan The Automator told MuchMusic.

"We want to destroy *NSync so Justin has no choice but to come and join Gorillaz," added animator Jamie Hewlett.

Meanwhile, Gorillaz may have lost a fan or two during their live performance in Toronto last weekend. The show drew very poor reviews.

Lance won't go to space

*Nsync star Lance Bass won't be making his way to space after all.

Earlier this week Lance's agents and Mircorp -- a commercial space exploration company -- said that Lance might agree to a $25 million deal in order to nab a seat on a Soyuz space taxi scheduled to take off in October, Reuters reports.

Unfortunately for lance, Sergei Gorbunov of the Russian Rosaviakosmos agency says there's no way Lance will be on the flight and continued to say Mircorp isn't even in the position to sell seats on the taxi.

"(Bass's flight) is just an advertising stunt, I can promise you," Gorbunov said. "This is better advertising than he could ever pay for."

Details on upcoming *Nsync tour

*Nsync are promising fans that their upcoming tour is going to be different from last year's PopOdyssey show.

The boys will kick off their Celebrity 2002 tour on March 3 in Portland, Oregon and this year's show is reportedly more intimate than last year's multi-stage spectacle, MTV reports.

The new tour will be performed on a circular stage which will give the audience a good view of Justin, Lance, J.C., Joey and Chris.

"It's great because you can fit more people and more people can come see you," Joey told MTV. "You're also closer to everybody. It does limit you in what you can do with special effects and that type of stuff, but this tour we didn't want to do that."

Britney & Justin design for charity

Britney and Justin have designed special T-shirts for charity.

Proceeds from the shirt sales are going to the Britney Spears Foundation and the Justin Timberlake Foundation, MuchMusic reports.

The design on Britney's shirt was reportedly inspired by the emotions the singer experienced after Sept. 11, while Justin's is based on the tattoo of a gold cross that can be found on his upper left arm.

Fans can purchase the shirts at Planet Hollywoods in the U.S., London, and Paris.

"I am so thrilled to be able to raise funds for my Foundation with the sale of the shirts," said Britney. "The designs came straight from my heart, and I hope all my fans will support the Foundation and its many worthy programs by buying the shirt."

    *Nsync flick gets panned

*Nsync star Lance Bass's debut flick made movie critics Ebert And Roeper's "Worst Of 2001" list.

"On the Line" made the critic's "Don't Quit Your Day Job" category, which they described as "films featuring some familiar faces who tried to make the leap to movie stardom -- and landed face-down with a horrible splat".

When Lance was informed of his movie's status at the People's Choice Awards, he didn't sound all that disturbed. He said he usually goes to the opposite of what the critic's say so, in fact, "I'm kind of flattered," he said.

Lance went on to say that although the movie took in a disappointing amount in ticket sales ($4.4 million), he plans to make films.

Meanwhile, fellow *Nsync-er Chris Kirkpatrick joked that the publicity will only help Lance sell DVD copies of the flick. He also said that a movie revolving around the entire *Nsync group was unlikely because "I can't act."

More on *Nsync in 'Star Wars'

The ongoing saga of *Nsync and "Star Wars: Episode II - Attack Of The Clones" continues.

Die-hard "Star Wars" fans reacted angrily to news that several of the *Nsync boys had won cameos in the upcoming flick from George Lucas. Then, group member Joey Fatone said the popstars weren't going to make the final cut due to the negative reaction from fans.

"... I'm going to make it officially known that they dropped it because people made a big deal about it," Joey told E! Online last week. "We're not going to be in it, and I'm not going to comment on it any more."

But an official from LucasFilm said George Lucas still hadn't made the final cut of the film and would be the one who ultimately decides whether the boys are chopped from the reel or not.

Now, *Nsync's Chris Kirkpatrick is also saying there's a chance some of the group members will still show up in the movie.

"Yes and no. To be more specific, maybe," he told zap2it.com when asked about "Star Wars".

*Nsync's J.C. Chasez tried to ease "Star Wars" junkies' fears that their potential presence would wreck the movie.

"Don't worry about it, we're not Obi-Wan Kenobi," he told zap2it.com.

"You know, we were little kids with the light sabers running around, and it was real flattering to even just be at the ranch and hanging out," Chris said, "and I'm sure that if anybody who is as big a 'Star Wars' fan as us, if not bigger, would have gotten the same opportunity, they would have taken it."

    *Nsync cut from 'Star Wars'?

*Nsync might not be making their way to space after all. *Nsync's Joey said the pop act's cameo was slashed from "Episode II", but insiders say there's still a chance the boys will make it to the screen.

"... I'm going to make it officially known that they dropped it because people made a big deal about it," Joey told E! Online. "We're not going to be in it, and I'm not going to comment on it any more," the force.net reports.

Some "Star Wars" fanatics were reportedly angered by the thought of the boy band making an appearance in their beloved franchise.

But those fanatics shouldn't start rejoicing yet. Lynn Hale, a spokeswoman for Lucasfilm, said that director George Lucas has yet to decide whether or not *Nsync will make the final cut.

"George makes all his decisions himself," she said. "And the final edit of the film is what he determines it will be."

In more *Nsync news, a previously unreleased track from the famous boy band is making its way to the "Longshot" soundtrack, MTV reports.

"Feel The Love" will be on the soundtrack for the straight-to-video flick. The CD is scheduled for release on March 5.

Previously unreleased tracks from O-Town ("See You Again") and LFO ("Me (Boom Shelak, Lak, Boom)") will also be on the CD, along with music by Take 5, C-Note, and Innosense.

The movie, which is about high school basketball, features cameos by Britney Spears, *Nsync, O-Town, and LFO. It will be available on VHS and DVD on March 26.

Here is the complete track listing for "Longshot":

  • *NSYNC - "Feel The Love"
  • LFO - "Me (Boom Shelak, Lak, Boom)"
  • O-Town - "See You Again"
  • Natural - "Put Your Arms Around Me"
  • Take 5 - "Let's Get This Party Started"
  • Innosense - "Wishing On Every Star"
  • C-Note - "So Often"

*Nsync scores Grammy noms, Britney is denied

*Nsync, Ricky Martin, Christina Aguilera and the Backstreet Boys are all nominated for Grammys but poor Britney Spears is shut out.

Out of all the major pop acts, *Nsync is the big winner -- managing to earn a nod for best pop vocal album with their latest release "Celebrity". The group will be competing against Canadian star Nelly Furtado, Janet Jackson, Elton John and Sade for the award.

The boy band also has a nomination for best pop performance by a duo or group with vocal for their single "Gone". The group will be battling against the Backstreet Boys' "Shape Of My Heart" for that award as well as with Five For Fighting ("Superman It's Not Easy"), U2 ("Stuck In A Moment You Can't Get Out Of") and R.E.M. ("Imitation Of Life").

*Nsync star and boyfriend of Britney Spears Justin Timberlake, also earned a nod without the help of his group mates. The track "My Kind Of Girl" which he performs with Brian McKnight is nominated for best pop collaboration with vocals.

"Lady Marmalade", performed by Christina Aguilera, Pink, Mya and Lil' Kim, "Nobody Wants To Be Lonely" performed by Ricky Martin and Christina Aguilera are also nominated in that category along with Shaggy's "It Wasn't Me" and Tony Bennett's & Billy Joel's "New York State Of Mind".

But there's no sign of Britney, the reigning pop princess, anywhere in the long list of nominees. Britney lost the Best New Artist Grammy in 2000 to Christina Aguilera, an event that she didn't take lightly.

"Of course I wanted to win," Britney told Rolling Stone in 2000. "But it was more of a disappointment to me to be letting the other people around me down. My mom wanted me to win so bad. And my dad. I felt kind of sad that I let them down."

Last year Britney was nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album for "Oops! ... I Did It Again" and Female Pop Vocal Performance for the song of the same name but lost to Steely Dan and Macy Gray.

    *Nsync in 'Star Wars'

The *Nsync boys are going to space.

Several of the famous *Nsyncers will briefly appear in George Lucas's upcoming "Star Wars Episode II: Attack Of The Clones," MTV reports.

A spokesperson for Lucasfilm didn't know which of the five *Nsync members would be appearing in the flick. The only thing that's been confirmed is that a few of the popstars will appear for a short time during a "big scene with lots of extras".

The singers, who are fans of the "Star Wars" films, were cast in the movie after they asked the producer, Rick McCallum, for small roles.

Meanwhile, Undercover Music News says Lucas cast the singers because his 13-year-old daughter Kate is a loyal *Nsync fan.

"Attack Of The Clones" stars Ewan McGregor, Natalie Portman, and Hayden Christensen. It is scheduled to hit theatres on May 16.

    Justin portrays Elton John

*Nsync heartthrob Justin Timberlake has portrayed Charlie Chaplin in one *Nsync video, and now he's taking on Elton John's persona.

The video focuses on Justin (playing Elton) backstage at a concert, singing the song as he walks from his dressing room to the stage. Meanwhile, Paul Reubens, a.k.a. Pee-wee Herman, will also star in the video, as Elton's/Justin's manager.

Justin is the second celebrity to step in for one of Elton's videos. Troubled actor Robert Downey Jr. ("Ally McBeal") appeared in the video for "I Want Love", Elton's first single from his latest album, "Songs From The West Coast".

    Lance plans more movies, club

*Nsync's Lance Bass is busy with an upcoming movie ("On The Line"), a star-studded soundtrack, and his *Nsync duties, but the singer still has time to plan out an elaborate social life.

Lance's next project will be his very own social hot spot in New York's West Village, The New York Post reports.

The 4,000 square foot space will feature a restaurant and a lounge. Lance plans to work on the club with his friend, Eytan Sugarman.

"Lance likes to party and likes to have a good time, and he's in New York a lot," Eytan told The Post. "It's just something the both of us really wanted to do. We're really confident about our product and we want to give it a shot."

    Details on star-studded soundtrack

Lance Bass is balancing his musical career and his acting aspirations.

The *Nsync star's latest project is a major movie (which also features *Nsync-er Joey Fatone) and a big-name soundtrack to accompany it.

"On The Line" is about an ad executive (Lance) who discovers the girl of his dreams on a commuter train and spends the rest of the film trying to find her.

"You'll be very pleasantly surprised," Emmanuelle Chriqui, who plays Lance's love interest, told MTV. "I think the pressure is there for them, but they're performers. They perform in front of thousands of people, they do music videos, they do interviews, they're in it."

Although the cast is made up of mostly unknowns, the soundtrack boasts a long list of pop superstars, MTV reports.

First, there's Britney Spears and her new song "Let Me Be". Then there's Joey Fatone going solo on "Ready To Fall", Al Green doing his classic "Let's Stay Together", and Vitamin C singing "Do You C What I C?".

*Nsync also makes an appearance on the album (of course), crooning "That Girl (Will Never Be Mine)".

    Love's on the line

By LOUIS B. HOBSON -- Calgary Sun

HOLLYWOOD -- There are times when a kiss is most definitely not a private moment.

For the romantic comedy On the Line, Canadian actress Emmanuelle Chriqui had to kiss Lance Bass, one-fifth of the boy band sensation *NSYNC.

"We did the kiss in front of 300 gawking fans. Even though Lance and I had become good friends by the time we filmed the kiss, we both felt very awkward kissing in front of so many peering eyes," says Chriqui, who filmed Snow Day in Calgary two years ago.

"As I've had to tell all my friends dozens of times, Lance's lips are soft and wonderful just like he is.

"I wasn't an *NSYNC fan when I was cast in the movie, but as I got to know Lance and Joey (Fatone) I became one of their biggest fans.

"Lance is so young and he has such enormous fame, yet he is real, quietly ambitious, inspiring and down-to-earth. It's not easy to remain so grounded when you are so famous."

Chriqui says that when Bass and Fatone filmed their scenes in Wrigley Field in Chicago, "it was absolutely insane. Girls were literally hyperventilating. I was frightened. Lance said it happens all the time. He was frightened at first, but now he just takes it all in stride."

On The Line opens Oct. 26.

    *Nsync's Lance frets about film

*Nsync's Lance is worried about the future of his upcoming movie "On The Line".

The movie stars Lance as a shy man who falls in love at first sight with a girl he meets on the train. Lance's character forgets to get the girl's number before she gets off the train, and he eventually starts to search the city for her. Lance's *Nsync band mate Joey Fatone is also in the movie.

Lance told The BBC that he's nervous about the reaction he'll get from critics.

"Of course I worry about which way it's gonna go," he said. "I'm definitely gonna watch and see. I mean, I hope it's a success. But yeah, there's gonna be a lot of criticism out there. You know, a lot of people hate it when musicians go over to acting and acting goes over to music. But I consider it all entertainment."

    *Nsyncers downscale movie premiere

Lance Bass and Joey Fatone have decided to downscale the screening of their movie "On The Line".

The two *Nsync-ers originally planned to stage a wide-scale premiere party at Radio City Music Hall, ew.com reports.

In the wake of the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11th, the two have decided to hold a more low-key ceremony on Oct. 9 at the Ziegfeld Theatre which is in Manhattan.

"The consensus is it's not fair or appropriate to ask the police department to provide the kind of security (necessary at Radio City) when they've got better things to do," the producer, Rich Hull, told ew.com.

Lance also posted a special message on *Nsync's official website in memory of the victims of the terrorist attacks:

My heart and the hearts of the guys breaks for those who have lost loved ones in this tragedy. Please know that my prayers are with you and the rest of our country in the coming days of recovery. It is important that we not resort to the same type of evil by mistreating innocent people because of our anger. I trust our government will find and punish those who are responsible for this atrocity, and give my total support to any decision President Bush makes.

Although we will never understand how anything this tragic could happen in our country, I believe God loves us and will get us through this. I am comforted by that fact.

God Bless America, Our home sweet home!

"God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble." Psalm 46:1

    With love,

Lance Bass on behalf of JC, Justin, Joey and Chris (official website from lance)

"On The Line" opens on Oct. 26 and tells the story of a shy man (Lance) who falls in love-at-first-sight while riding the train in Chicago. Lance's character spends the rest of the film searching for the mystery girl with the help of his best friend (Joey) as the two use posters and signs in an effort to find her and eventually begin to attract a lot of attention to themselves.

    *Nsync reteams with Jackson 5

*Nsync will join Michael Jackson after all.

The popstars originally cancelled their planned appearance this Friday (Sept. 7) at "Michael Jackson: 30th Anniversary Celebration" because they were originally supposed to be practising for their MTV Video Music Awards performance during the same time that Michael was rehearsing for his major show in New York, Rolling Stone reports.

But now *Nsync's performance with Michael is back on track, and they have agreed to sing Jackson 5's "Dancing Machine" with the Jackson 5.

*Nsync drops out of Jackson concert

*NSync has defected from Michael Jackson's upcoming tribute to himself at Madison Square Gardens.

The show's producer David Gest announced in a press release Thursday that *NSync will not duet with the King Of Pop as planned at the Sept. 7 concert. (A second show is scheduled for Sept. 10).

"Due to scheduling conflicts, Michael Jackson and *NSync will not have time to rehearse the 'Dancing Machine' number with the Jacksons in the way Michael planned to present it," Gest said in the press release.

"Unfortunately, *NSync will be rehearsing their MTV Video Music Awards performance on Wednesday and Thursday while Michael will be rehearsing for his shows at the Garden. The two schedules just conflict and *NSync will not be in New York prior to that. Michael looks forward to working with *NSync in the future as he is a very big fan of the group."

Previously, Mary J. Blige dropped off the show. She was replaced by Canadian singer Nelly Furtado.

Jackson's brother Jermaine had initially announced he would be a no-show but has since agreed to appear in a reunion of the Jackson 5. Randy, who joined the group when they were known as The Jacksons, was also said to be a no-show, but he has since been convinced to join the festivities.

Performers who are still scheduled to appear include Canadian singer Deborah Cox, Destiny's Child, Gloria Estefan, Whitney Houston, Liza Minnelli, Ricky Martin, Jill Scott, and Luther Vandross.

Tickets for the show are trading at the online auction site Ebay for as high as $1,200 for floor seats to as low as the $150 range, although one pair of seats for Monday night's concert in section 324 brought in a high bid of $102 on Thursday.

*Nsync team with 80s pop princess

Teen pop princes *Nsync are planning to help a former teen pop star return to the stage.

Eighties singer Debbie Gibson, now known as Deborah Gibson, will open up for *Nsync for six concert dates starting today (Aug. 16) in Indianapolis and ending in El Paso on Aug. 27, MTV reports.

Deborah's opening stint will last for 20 minutes. It will include six singer and dancers she met and worked with during her tour with the musical "Cinderella".

She plans to play hits from her '80s albums "Out Of The Blue" and "Electric Youth"' as well as music from "M.Y.O.B.", the album she released this year.

"The guys are very familiar with my career," Deborah told MTV. "The first time I met Chris [Kirkpatrick] and Lance [Bass] was at one of their shows at Madison Square Garden a year and a half ago. I went backstage and they did double takes and went, 'Oh, my God, I bought your records'!"

It was the singer's mother and manager who set up her current gig. Although Deborah knows that some of *Nsync's fans might not have even been born when she was a star, the former teen princess isn't letting that get to her.

"It's pretty cool to have a clean slate with some of these kids that have no preconceived notions," she said.

Below is a list of *Nsync's tour dates that will feature Deborah as an opening act:

  • 8/16 - Indianapolis, IN @ RCA Dome
  • 8/18 - Pittsburgh, PA @ Heinz Field
  • 8/20 - Columbus, OH @ Columbus Crew Stadium
  • 8/22 - New Orleans, LA @ Louisiana Superdome
  • 8/24 - Jackson, MS @ Veterans Memorial Stadium
  • 8/27 - El Paso, TX @ Sun Bowl Stadium

In more *Nsync news, the Independent Film Channel is doing a documentary that will include footage of *Nsync members Lance Bass and Joey Fatone's film "On The Line," Sonicnet reports.

"Crossover" will air on Sept. 24 and features interviews with Jewel, Ice-T, Gene Simmons of KISS, and Mos Def along with other musicians who have done the "crossover" from music to movies.

Lance's part in the documentary will include his work as a producer on "On The Line", the casting of the film, and the final day on the set.

"On The Line" is expected to debut on Oct. 26.

*Nsync wins big at the Teen Choice Awards

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- *Nsync, Destiny's Child and Britney Spears were big winners at the Teen Choice Awards, which even netted an appearance by actor Ben Affleck.

Boy band *Nsync picked up awards for best single for Pop and for best album, while Spears was named favourite female artist.

"Thank you so much for doing this for me," she told the audience Sunday at the third annual award show. "It's just such an honour being voted by all my peers."

Members of the girl group Destiny's Child said they were surprised to beat out stiff competition like *Nsync, O-Town and The Backstreet Boys to win the award for favourite pop group.

The show was staged at the Universal Amphitheatre and will air Aug. 20 on Fox. Votes for favourite actors, musicians and athletes were cast on forms published in Seventeen magazine and made available online.

Along with appearances by a number of superstars, the audience was treated to performances from the likes of Lil' Bow Wow and the girl group Dream.

One nominee surprised fans with his appearance.

Actor Ben Affleck, who is currently in treatment for alcohol abuse, came out to pick up two awards, including favourite actor.

"I actually wasn't going to be here, but I felt like it was important, because this actually means a lot to me because it's voted on by you guys," he said.

Sarah Michelle Gellar, who plays the title character in Buffy the Vampire Slayer accepted the award for extraordinary achievement.

"I'm honoured that all of you guys think I'm a role model," she said. "So believe in yourself and go for it."
