S club dad in serious trouble

The father of S Club 7 star Paul Cattermole is going to jail.

Gerald Cattermole received a sentence of almost three years in prison for committing sexual offences with two 14-year-old girls with learning problems, MuchMusic reports.

Paul's 50-year-old father was found guilty of engaging in sexual intercourse with an underage girl twice and assaulting her friend.

The judge argued that although the girls consented, they were also "vulnerable".

"I want to make it plain I do not sentence you today upon the basis that you traded in the fame of your son, or the fact that he may be an idol to these two girls and many others as a result of his success in the pop music world," said the judge.

S Club deny split

S Club 7 isn't breaking up despite rumours circulating in U.K. tabloids.

The U.K. pop act/TV stars recently released an official statement denying a story about a possible split that ran in the British paper News Of The World, The BBC reports.

"There is absolutely no truth in reports of S Club 7 splitting up," reads the statement. "Their second U.K. tour will kick off later this month and another single from their hit album 'Sunshine' is due for release in February ... plus they've started working on their fourth album. S Club 7 are the busiest they've ever been and have no plans to split."

S Club 7 still going strong

By STEPHANIE McGRATH
--AllPop

S Club 7 has a new album, more television adventures, and a budding romance in the works.

The U.K. pop act -- created by Spice Girls svengali Simon Fuller and made up of Tina Barrett, Paul Cattermole, Jon Lee, Bradley McIntosh, Jo O'Meara, Hannah Spearritt, and Rachel Stevens -- has lasted longer than most music and TV critics thought they would.

The actors and singers entered the spotlight in 1999 with their album "S Club" and their TV show "S Club 7 In Miami". They're now on their third album, "Sunshine", and their TV show finds their on-screen alter egos making a little headway in the fictional quest for success.

Speaking to AllPop from her home in the U.K., Tina says that getting to record three albums with S Club has been "a good surprise".

"This one, out of all our albums, is the one we're most proud of," she says. "This is S club 7, more so than the other two [albums] because, I guess, Bradley wrote two tracks, Paul co-wrote one track. All the other tracks, we were more involved in the overall sound. It was just a sort of sound we wanted. Everyone has their own song, as well. There's no real prominent solo singer on the album."

Like the S Club albums, the latest episodes in the S Club 7 series, which air on MuchMusic in Canada, are an improvement on the early days of the S Club TV show, Tina says.

"The TV series is a lot better," she says. "We [the on-screen S Club-ers] get a bit of luck, as well. We're not struggling as much. It's funnier, the characters are better. It's just gone up a notch, basically."

As their fame stands strong overseas, so does the gossipy interest in their personal lives. U.K. tabloids have written articles about the different group members, and the S Club boys were embarrassed in the winter of 2001 when they had a run-in with the law over marijuana. But it's their romantic interludes that seem to interest gossips the most, and Tina can clear up a few questions about her bandmates' love lives.

First, is Jo still getting married? She did tell AllPop readers she was engaged during a live chat last year.

"I think she has called the wedding off for a bit, but she's still engaged," says Tina. "We've been so busy, and I think she wants to do it right."

But it's the rumoured romance between Hannah and Paul that has fans whispering. Jo told AllPop last year that she couldn't imagine anyone in the group hooking up.

"We're too much like brothers and sisters to get interested in each other that way," Jo said at the time. "None of us fancies each other. It's just not that way."

But things have apparently changed.

"Hannah and Paul are together," says Tina. "They've always been closer-than-close sort of thing as friends, so when they finally took it a step further, everyone was just like 'about time, too'."

Aside from the romantic gossip, the S Club members have been pretty good at avoiding controversy lately.

"We're aware that our audience is young," says Tina, "so we're not going to do anything to ruin that. But at the same time, we're human beings, we never asked to be role models. We're in no way perfect. We will make mistakes."

S Club Junior & romance

U.K. pop act S Club 7's CDs and TV shows are so successful that the group has spawned offspring.

S Club Junior is composed of young talents who won a competition to tour with S Club 7, MuchMusic reports.

"We saw thousands of kids, and we've found nine kids to be there for us on our tour," S Club's Bradley told Much. "You're gonna see a bit of them, they're good".

In more S Club news, the group, which has a new album, "Sunshine" in stores, also has a new romance in the works. Publicists for Universal Music Canada confirmed that group members Paul and Hannah have begun dating.

"It just happened," Bradley told Much. "I mean Paul and Hannah have been good friends since day one. Out of the whole band, they have known each other the longest. They got on really well. It just kind of happened. God bless, you know?"

It's unclear whether this picture of Paul and Hannah locking lips is a still from their TV series (they apparently get to kiss this season) or if it's a real-life smooch.

S Club boys apologise again

The members of the hit U.K. pop group and TV show S Club 7 apologized to their fans on a national television show Thursday.

Three of the group members -- Bradley McIntosh, Paul Cattermole and Jon Lee -- received a stern "caution" from the U.K. police on Tuesday after marijuana was found on them in London.

They appeared on a U.K. station with the female members (who weren't involved in the legal trouble) to apologize to their young fans, the BBC reports.

"I hope the success that we've enjoyed we continue to keep having, and I hope that people understand," Paul said. "People can support us in times like this."

On Wednesday night the group appeared on MTV in the U.K. where they made an informal apology -- and were harassed over the phone by Dominic Mohan, an entertainment gossip writer for The London Sun.

S Club also released a statement Wednesday in which they called themselves "stupid" and apologized again for their arrest.

"The band are gutted by this," said their spokesman. "They rate their fans very highly ,and they know that they have let a lot of people down. Now they're learning their lesson the hard way."

Companies that sponsor the usually squeaky-clean group have said they are "disappointed" about the incident and quickly pointed out that their firm "would never condone the use of drugs."

In more S Club 7 news, the group will launch their first U.K. tour on May 31 and hope to make a big-screen movie. They also want to do several live performances in North America this year.

S Club 7 chat

On Friday, October 13, Jo, Rachel and Paul of S Club 7 spent some time chatting with their fans through AllPop.com. Find out what Jo had to say about getting married and what Paul thought when he saw a doll version of himself. It's all in the chat transcript.

Jo: Hi there, we'll be starting the chat with Jo, Paul and Rachel of S Club 7 at 4p.m.

Anonymous: Friendship and Love are two of the main themes expressed on your second album. What inspired you guys to included these strong themes?

Rachel: I think with the second album we wanted to go a bit older. We had a lot more input into the second album and I don't know...we wanted to express a lot in it really. We're really proud of it.

~*~Shannon from Canada~*~: Hi! I was wondering what u guys do to separate the "stereotyping" of pop bands and make urselves different than other groups...besides having ur own tv show! :)

Rachel: I think all groups are different. I know we're a pop band and people think we're manufactured but we have so much say in what we do musically and on the TV show, basically, we're just being ourselves. We just want to come across as having fun! That's what we do.

Tenille Jackson: Hi S Club 7! I was wondering if you have plans to do some shows in Canada in the future? Canada LOVES S Club!

Rachel: We're off to Toronto...to do MuchMusic, we haven't planned a tour of concerts cause we're doing a U.K. tour next year. Hopefully sometime soon we'll be coming. I love Canada. As far as the show goes, we're going out to L.A. again in December to film the new series. You never know, we could move to Canada.

Debbie G, BC,Canada: What bands/cds are in your cd player?

Rachel: I have so many! I like, Moby, Eminem, I like a lot of R&B stuff, all the pop stuff (*NSync, BSB) a lot of ballads, 60s and 70s stuff. I've got a diverse range of music.

KiNGaDRoK: Who is your favourite famous person you have met since coming to North America?

Rachel: We've met so many great people.....ummm..the thing is we've met loads and loads of people but you never get to sit down and have a proper conversation cause everybody's so busy. I met Bryan Adams, he was really nice. And Tom Jones, was great.

C'Nedra: Who's the biggest pessimist in the group?

Rachel: We're all quite optimistic really. We all have our days when we're not feeling quite right. You have your off days and the days when you're really happy. Nobody's really the biggest pessimist.

Monty Chadsey: What do you miss the most from home..Food?..Family?..Friends? or favourites??

Rachel: I miss my family and my friends, also I miss a good cup of English tea. But Canada does good tea! And my own bed.

danny: if you guy were all on 'survivor,' who would win?

Rachel: Jon would win cause he's a born survivor. He would win actually!

Maggie Cunningham: If you could come back in time, where would you go and why? Thanks Luv Maggie Cunningham from Ontario Canada!

Rachel: I'd go to the sixties cause I love the music, the clothes, everything. I'd like to go for a couple of days and then come back to this time.

murdles: This is for the girls...you always seem to be in bikini's, doesn't this make you feel uncomfortable?

Rachel: We're always in bikinis cause we're always on a beach. I don't feel uncomfortable no, cause we're on the beach. No, no, it's cool.

KRIS LANE: WOULD YOU ALL (S CLUB 7) CONSIDER WORKING WITH OTHER MUSIC ARTISTS TO BE FEATURED ON FUTURE ALBUMS? example:MARIAH CAREY,JANET,WHITNEY HOUSTON,BOYZ II MEN.

Rachel: That would be fantastic, we'd all really like to. I'd like to work with George Michael and Lionel Ritchie

Linn: What's the strangest thing a fan has ever done for you?

Chrissy: Who is the peace maker in the band?

Jo: Once somebody gave me a picture of their Jack Russell and asked me to put it on my fridge! it was very bizarre.

Jo: I don't think there is one. Paul says it's him, Rachel says it's her. I don't think it gets to the point where we need a peacemaker.

Peter O'Keeffe: I have heard rumours about a movie being in the works, when is it planned for?

Jo: Yes, there is going to be a movie next year. We don't know what its about yet, no scripts have been written next. It's going to be something totally different from Miami or LA 7.

Peter O'Keeffe: Its a little freaky, today being Friday the 13th, are you superstitious, and has it ever paid off?

Jo: I am a little bit, not really badly though. I won't walk under a ladder though, don't ask me why.

Debbie G, BC,Canada: Out of all the things you've done in your career, what do you feel has been your biggest accomplishment?

Jo: I think the whole thing - it's been a massive achievement. We won a Brit award in London and that was massive, we were really proud.

Peter O'Keeffe: Jo congratulations on the wedding, when do you plan on getting married?

Jo: Yes, I am engaged and I'm not planning on getting married for a while yet. No dates set yet.

Jo: They'll all be invited (S Club)

Celyn Phillips: Hi SClub, especially Bradley. Do any of you surf the net ? P.S, Bradley I love you :)

Jo: HI! I don't know about anybody else. I do, I recently got hooked up and it's quite addictive. I don't think anybody else is really online.

Christine: Why did you guys decide to call yourselves S Club 7?

Peter O'Keeffe: If you ever went solo what kind of music would you be performing?

Jo: Basically, the S doesn't stand for anything, it can stand for anything you want it to stand for. The name S Club 7, S is a good shape, the club cause it's something you can join and the 7 cause there's seven of us.

Jo: I don't think we've thought about that yet. Now we're just concentrating on S Club 7.

SclubObsession: I'm obsessed with the SCLUB7, so my question is...name one thing you guys where obsessed about when you where younger.

Jo: Michael Jackson. My whole room was plastered in posters. I wouldn't wait outside his hotel or anything.

Natalie: I heard a rumour that Paul and Tina were leaving. Is it true? Please no! If they are, what will happen? Will you get replacements?

Jo: That was stemmed from something that was said a long time ago. Tina and Paul aren't leaving, they're not going anywhere. It was ages ago.

Christa: What shops do you like to buy your clothes?

Jo: I like Diesel, Miss 60

Machelee Harris: I just wanted to say that I enjoy your show and I wanted to know when you guy are going to tour Canada and when are you to play in Toronto? Also out of all the places you guy have been to which was the best?

Jo: We're doing a U.K. tour next year. There's not date yet.

Carine: Napster in your opinion is it stealing or just sharing files?

Jo: I don't know much about it. Sorry.

Shelby: Are you guys going to be doing season in England ???

Jo: I'm not sure yet. It's too early to say. But, I'd like to. For now, the next season will be in L.A.

john : if you could pick a quality that you wish you had (ex. tidy) from another member of the band what would it be and from who?

Paul: I'm not tidy! Jo is. More care-free....probably Jon & Hannah are more care-free

KRIS LANE: WILL THERE BE A THIRD ALBUM? take your time, I know you work very hard performing for us.

Paul: Yes, we started recording a couple of tracks already. We don't know how the whole album will take shape but it will have more tracks written by us: some titles: "Never had a dream come true" "High Times"

jimmyb: Were there any problems adjusting to driving the "S Club Car" on the opposite side of the road when you came to North America?

Paul: No, not really, I took the car out for a spin before we started filming just to make sure I'd be o.k. on the other side of the road. I was fine.

shock: Do any of you like video games, own a playstation or Dreamcast or any thing like that? Or do u not have enough time for video games?

Paul: Yeah, I've got a Playstation, I haven't played it for about a year.

deante : ru rich now

Paul: No. More comfortable than I was before but not rich no.

Anna Gabrielle Moss: HAVE YOU GOT ANY AMBITIONS LEFT?

Paul: Yes! I want to write an album of my own, do some movies, some musicals.

I*Love*SClub7: What did you think of Artistic Differences? Do you think all of your other shows are better? I Love SClub7 Go Wild I think it is fantastic! Was it fun to film?

Paul: S Club 7 Go Wild is good. We're actually more ourselves in S Club 7 Go Wild.

Tasha (London): So, have any of you ever been in love? Because you sing about it a lot!

Paul: Yes, I have, at least I thought I was and I still think that I was. I haven't met anyone to prove me different.

Uli : Do you have a girlfriend at the moment?

Paul: No, I don't no. I haven't for a while so I'm free and single and ready to rock. I wouldn't really consider dating a fan cause I wouldn't want to talk about my fan in my spare time and you'd know that person would be a big fan of the band.

Jamie: How does it feel seeing web pages devoted to the band?

Paul: It's mad, it's mad. I haven't seen any of them cause I'm not on the web.

Taylor: Hey Paul! Were you disappointed when you didn't get the part of Anakin? What would have happened if you did get it, would you accept? Would you leave S Club to film? Thanks!

Paul: I don't think I would have been able to. But yeah, obviously I was pretty gutted. The papers said I'd been turned down but I hadn't even been properly approached. It was mentioned to agents here in LA.

Tessa: Hello! Don't you feel weird when you get much younger boys and girls who think they are in love with you?

Paul: Hello! Yes, sometimes because what they see is something on TV and a personality they believe might be you and it's not really you. It's just a job you do. If the opportunity comes to explain yourself, then yeah, I try to explain it. But if you just meet someone and you're being rushed, you don't have the time.

Jenn Orosz: How did you all meet?

Paul: It was a series of auditions and it took about eight months. It was myself, Jon and Hannah at first.

Paul: Me and Hannah had done shows together before though.

Nick: Do you have time to read all your fan mail?

Paul: Yes! Often the ones you read is the stuff you get handed when you do a gig. Yes, I have written back to fans, not all the time though.

E. Vilkay: What sets an S-Club party apart from the other parties?

Paul: There's just lots of noise! Absolute madness.

eim: Whats the third album going to be called ?

Paul: I don't know yet, haven't decided. Maybe..."7 in a bed and the little one said"

Rhiannon: Hiya! Anyway I am 18 and a singer/actress/dancer and it seems that everyone is telling me that I need to do something more realistic with my life, but I love what I do. So how did you guys handle when someone told you that you needed to do something else or that you can't do that?

Paul: Then stick at it! Completely! You gotta just keep at it if it's what you want to do. I just loved it too much. When I was younger and when to dance classes a lot of guys laughed at me. But if it's what you want to do you just have to forget all that.

Rachel: What is the most hurtful untrue rumour the press have published about you and how did you get over it?

Paul: There's more people in the band that have had more hurtful stuff (in the band) than myself. You just forget about it cause you know what they said isn't true.

Anonymous: how do you feel knowing that you are now role models?

Paul: You don't really sit back and think about it, you accept the fact that people look up to you but you do what a 23-year-old would do.

PooFuChica: Where would you see yourself in 5 years time?

Paul: That's hard...I don't know, wherever the road leaves. I'd like to be doing my own stuff. I don't know if S Club will go 5 years, we'll take it as far as it will go though.

Hildeke: What is your favourite song, you have ever made?

Paul: Well... My favourite track is "Reach" because it's happy and lively and really, really pop-y.

S Club Bear13: What do you think about the S Club Dolls

Paul: How mad to have a doll of yourself! When in my life did I ever think I'd see a doll of me, it's quite strange! They're all pretty good. I think Bradley's is a good likeness.

Paul: Thank you for logging on, take care! And wherever you are in the world hopefully we'll be seeing you soon.

AllPop interviews S Club 7's Jo
By STEPHANIE McGRATH -- AllPop

Although S Club 7, a U.K. based pop group and stars of a TV series just released their new album "7," one group member is already looking ahead.

"We already started recording it [the group's third album] a couple of weeks ago," says the group's blondest member, Jo O'Meara on the phone from the U.K. "It's a mix-match. We're writing more this time on the third album, which is nice cause we get a bit of input in it as well. Can't really say where the third album is going yet."

If S Club 7 is to release a new album, it logically follows that there must be a new TV show to accompany it, since the group's popularity is based on both their up-beat pop songs and their cute physical appearance. But, Jo says in addition to the continuation of "S Club in L.A." S Club has big, big plans for next year.

"The next big thing we'll be doing is a movie," she says. " I can't talk too much about it, don't know much about it myself but there is one."

Don't let Jo's interest in the future fool you. The singer/actor/dancer is still excited about "7", which she describes as being "just a better album" than the group's debut album "S Club".

Although "7" carries on the essence of the group's debut album (fun, light-hearted, catchy pop songs), the group sounds stronger and more synchronized than they did on their first album.

But, like the first, it is Jo's strong voice that comes pelting out at the listener on almost every song.

"I've never actually had voice training," she says. "I taught myself to sing. I used to spend hours in my bedroom when I was younger. I just got a lot of influence from a lot of different artists and created my own voice."

Does her talent cause jealousy with the others?

"Not at all! Not at all!" Jo exclaims. "I've been singing since I was 13 ... It is a fact that there are stronger singers, but there's also stronger actresses and there's stronger actors and stronger dancers. Everyone in the band has got what they specialize in."

Jo quickly runs through a quick list of her six bandmates and their talents saying that Rachel Stevens, Bradley McIntosh, Hannah Spearritt, Jon Lee, Tina Barrett and Paul Cattermole are all either good dancers or singers.

"That's it really," says Jo as she finishes her list. "I don't know if I missed anyone. You can never remember every one in the band."

The U.K. tabloids don't seem to have any trouble keeping the group members straight. Although S Club 7 isn't the subject of as many rumours as some pop stars (like Victoria Beckham a.k.a. Posh Spice), the very young group of singers and television actors have all had their names in the papers.

"We've been quite lucky so far, we've not had any really bad press. You do have days when you get all down in the dumps about it all and whatever, but you just have to carry on with it. The weirdest one [rumour] I've heard so far was me and Bradley dating - that's a lie!"

Four young, pretty girls and three young, cute boys all in one group could possibly spell a romantic disaster, but Jo sounds a bit put off at the suggestion that there could ever be inter-band dating among the S Club-ers.

"We're too much like brothers and sisters to get interested in each other that way," she says. "None of us fancy each other, it's just not that way."

But it's a fact that thousands of U.K. pop lovers and a growing number of North Americans fancy S Club 7. Until the group comes to Canada on a promotional tour later this year, fans will have to satisfy themselves with the TV show and the "7" album.

As far as Jo is concerned, the fall is the perfect time for young fans to listen to "7".

"Basically, we're just about making kids aware ... with school in especially ... you get put down so much at school and people disbelieve that you can do things, and we're just basically there to say that if you work hard and try hard you can achieve whatever you want to really, as long as you're prepared to work for it."
