'Buffy', 'Angel' both renewed
Buffy will be fighting off vampires for at least 22 more episodes.
The WB network just ordered another season's worth of episodes of both "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and its spin-off, "Angel" for 2000-01, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
"Buffy" creator Joss Whedon and co-creator David Greenwalt plan to write new "Angel" scripts in June, then work on "Buffy" later in the summer.
"Buffy," starring Sarah Michelle Gellar, proved to be a strong addition to the WB soon after its March 1997 debut.
"Angel" the "Buffy" spin-off, follows the exploits of Angel (David Boreanaz), Buffy's ex-boyfriend (who's also a vampire). It is the WB's highest-rated new series this season.
Boreanaz has been the focus of "Angel", but Whedon says more characters will be added to the program next season.
"We're looking to build up the ensemble a little more, but you'll see fewer stories that are peripheral to Angel," he told the Reporter.
Whedon went on to explain that they originally thought of Angel as a guardian for other characters but soon realized that the show's audience wanted to know more about the mysterious good vampire.
