MTV host gets late-night talk show

NBC is reviving its mothballed late-night talk show "Later," with MTV's Carson Daly in the host's chair.

The Hollywood Reporter said Daly's deal will allow him to host the hour-long nightly chat-show, his syndicated radio show, and his signature duties as host of MTV's "Total Request Live."

Daly had been signed to a talent-development deal with CBS, where he had worked as part of the Super Bowl coverage team and hosted the Miss USA pageant.

Daly follows in the footsteps of sportscaster Bob Costas, who originated the show in 1988. He was replaced in 1994 by Greg Kinnear, who hung in for two years and was replaced by rotating hosts until Cynthia Garrett took over last year. After several months with Garrett as host, the show was put on hiatus.

The Hollywood Reporter said Daly will debut as host early next year.
