Steamy 'Buffy' gets cut
A racy scene in last week's episode of "Buffy The Vampire Slayer" had to be edited after network execs at UPN took a peak.
The scene in question was the romantic interlude between Buffy And Spike (James Marsters and Sarah Michelle Gellar), zap2it.com reports.
UPN asked the "Buffy" staff to cut 10 to 15 seconds out of the final scene of the episode, which involved a physical moment between the slayer and the vampire.
"You should have seen the shot at the end before UPN cautioned us," Marti Noxon, the show's co-executive producer told zap2it.com. "It was much, much longer, and that last image of them in the smoke -- that's CGI smoke we had to add for a couple reasons. One of the reasons is that we had to shorten that shot dramatically, but we also needed to obscure the action for the network."
But Marti isn't too upset about the edit. She said the scene before the one that was edited was just as steamy, especially with the zipper sound effect.
The producer went on to say that the stakes between Buffy and Spike have been raised, but that doesn't mean it's true love and a happy ending.
"To me the relationship is really about choosing someone who, in the long run, some of the safety of it is that you know it can't work," Marti said.
For now, though, Marti plans to enjoy the tension between Spike and Buffy and says the two actors have "a beautiful chemistry together".
