Vampires go Broadway for Musical 'Buffy'

Next week, "Buffy The Vampire Slayer" will turn into a musical extravaganza with an episode titled "Once More, With Feeling".

"It's the most fun I'll ever have," said Whedon on the show's official website. "I mean, because I'm doing everything, everything I ever wanted to do."

According to coronaproductions.com's Scoops section, there will be two versions of the musical episode. The first, will air on Tuesday, Nov. 6 and will run for about 57 minutes. UPN plans to rerun the episode that same week but that version will only be about 48 minutes long. The shorter version will be the episode that finds its way into syndication and reruns.

If FOX releases the sixth season of "Buffy" on DVD, it's expected that the longer version will find its way onto the disc.

YTV, which airs the program in Canada, said it will also air the 57-minute version of the show next week.

A preview of the episode can be viewed on the official "Buffy" website.

The first song on the preview is a Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy) solo.

"Life's a show/ and we all play our parts/ and when the music starts/ we open up our hearts/it's all right if some things come out wrong/ we'll sing a happy song/ and you can sing along," Sarah croons (not terribly).

The next previewed song features Giles (Anthony Stewart Head), Xander (Nicholas Brendon), Anya (Emma Caulfield), and Willow (Alyson Hannigan) singing about their various theories on the reason they've taken to singing everything.

"It's getting eerie, what's this cheery singing all about," the cast sings. (Alyson has the weakest voice on this particular number.)

According to the official website, the real reason for the non-stop singing is because: "A demon is summoned to Sunnydale forcing Buffy and her friends to sing their deepest secrets to one another,".

The finale appears to be a big-Broadway-production-number that finds all of the cast singing: "Understand/we'll go hand in hand/but we'll walk alone in fear/ where do we go from here?"

AllPop will have the full recap of the musical episode on Wednesday, Nov. 7. (Note: due to television scheduling changes, AllPop will have the recap of the Oct. 30 episode of "Buffy" on Monday, Nov. 5.)
