McGowan confirmed to replace Doherty on 'Charmed'

Rose McGowan's replacement of Shannen Doherty has gone off like a charm.

Reports last week suggested McGowan was being sought by the producers of TV's "Charmed" to replace Shannen Doherty, who left the show at the end of the season.

Now, Reuters reports McGowan, whose big-screen credits include "Jawbreaker" and "Scream," has indeed signed on with the series, replacing Doherty as one of three sisters with supernatural powers.

Doherty had reportedly experienced tension with co-star Alyssa Milano. Reuters said McGowan's character will be a "long-lost sister" who mysteriously materializes, while Doherty's character will simply vanish.

'Scream' actress set to replace Doherty in 'Charmed'

Actress Rose McGowan ("Scream") is in talks to step into Shannen Doherty's spot in the witchcraft-themed show "Charmed," Variety reports.

Negotiations are at an advanced stage, and it appears McGowan, who also appeared in "Ready To Rumble" and "Jawbreaker," will join Alyssa Milano and Holly Marie Combs in the cast of Spelling Television's series.

Doherty exited the show amid rumours of strife between the former "Beverly Hills 90210" star and her cast-mates, Variety said.

Cast fight led to Doherty's departure: report

You didn't need supernatural powers to divine the fact that Shannen Doherty's departure from the witchcraft-themed series "Charmed" was related to a cat-fight between the former "Beverly Hills 90210" star and her colleague, sultry starlet Alyssa Milano.

The New York Daily News reports that despite official reports that Doherty's departure was a "mutual decision" with the show's producers, the truth is the friendship between the stars that existed in 1998 has more recently soured.

Doherty, Milano, and co-star Holly Marie Combs were so close at one point that Milano picked her co-stars to be her bridesmaids in 1999 when she married musician Cinjun Tate (who she has since divorced), The Daily News said.

In recent months, Doherty would only speak to her co-stars in character, but gave them a wide berth off stage.

The Daily News said Milano went to producers weeks ago demanding that either Doherty was fired, or she would walk.

When Doherty learned of the ultimatum, she quit, the report said.HREF="mailto:allpop@allpop.com">AllPop
