Crawford earns CHL Player of the Week Honours
Week 18
Moncton Wildcats' goaltender Corey Crawford is the Canadian Hockey League's Player of the Week for the week ending February 9, 2003. Each week during the regular season a CHL Player of the Week is selected based on the three members' leagues' player of the week.
A native of Montreal, Quebec, Crawford went undefeated in three starts last week posting a .67 goals against average and a .975 save percentage. Crawford recorded a 2-0 shutout over the Montreal Rocket on February 7 and he had a streak of 130 minutes and 10 seconds where he did not allow a goal. On the season Crawford leads the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League with a .925 save percentage and his goals against average of 2.41 ties him for first place in QMJHL rankings. Crawford, who played for Team Orr in the 2003 Home Hardware Top Prospects Game, was also selected as the CHL Player of the Week on January 8.
The Ontario Hockey League's Player of the Week is Matt Harpwood of the Mississauga IceDogs. The nineteen year old native of Welland, Ontario, posted a 1.00 goals against average, two shutouts and a .963 save percentage as the IceDogs recorded two wins and a tie in play last week.
Joffrey Lupul of the Medicine Hat Tigers is the Western Hockey League's Player of the Week. The native of Edmonton, Alberta recorded nine points of six goals and three assists in three games last week. Lupul was selected seventh overall by the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim in the 2002 National Hockey League Entry Draft.
The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League's Offensive Player of the Week is Joel Perrault of the Baie-Comeau Drakkar. In four Drakkar wins last week Perrault scored three goals and added eight assists for 11 points. Goaltender Corey Crawford of the Moncton Wildcats was selected as the QMJHL's Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending February 9. In three games last week the native of Montreal recorded three wins, one shutout, a goals against average of .67 and a .975 save percentage.
