Laich earns CHL Player of the Week honours

Week Number 19

Seattle Thunderbirdsâ forward Brook Laich is the Canadian Hockey League's Player of the Week for the week ending February 16, 2003. Each week during the regular season a CHL Player of the Week is selected based on the three members' leagues' player of the week.

In three games last week Laich, a nineteen year old from Wawota, Saskatchewan, recorded nine points on three goals and six assists as the Thunderbirds recorded a pair of wins and a tie. A highlight of the week for Laich, who played for Canada's silver medal team at the 2003 World Junior Hockey Championships, was a one goal four assist performance in Seattle's 11-1 win over the Lethbridge Hurricanes on February 15. In 47 games this season Laich, who was selected by the Ottawa Senators in the 2001 National Hockey League Entry Draft, has 76 points on 32 goals and 44 assists.

Joey Tenute of the Sarnia Sting was selected as the Ontario Hockey League Player of the Week for the week ending February 16. In three games last week Tenute recorded eight points on three goals and five assists.

Right winger Benoit Genesse of the Val-d'Or Foreurs is the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League's Offensive Player of the Week. Genesse earned QMJHL Offensive Player of the Week honours by scoring five goals and adding three assists in three games last week. The QMJHL Defensive Player of the Week is defenseman Milan Jurcina of the Halifax Mooseheads. Last week Jurcina had a plus minus rating of plus nine and he added two assists in three games.
